A superb cup double has been the end product of a impressive season for the Burgh'...definatly not the prettiest of games....but ever so slightly better than the Bo'ness game on Saturday, and besides, who's complaining?
The opening exchanges were basically a carbon copy of what happened on Saturday, each team giving little away in terms of space and time, however there existed little vigour or determination to have a go at each other anyway. Arniston probably had the better chance of the half; some neat play on the edge of the box allowed a deflected shot to smack the base of the post...which woke up the dissapointingly low crowd.
Then a flash point: a bad foul on Brian Murray prompted a red card for Tadge Moriarty...a more than usual amount of abuse came the referees way for this decision: one could argue that it spoiled the game, but this would have been a poor excuse since the game meandered on the way it had been going anyway.
The second half began in the same vein, although as the game progressed, Musselburgh were beginning to break down a very well drilled and entrenched Arniston defence...not only defence...since on many occasions there was ten maroon tops behind the ball regardless of where it was. It had penalties written all over it, especially after Chris King's edge of the box screamer came off the bar.
But Kingy wasn't to be denied, deep into stoppage time, and after Tansey finally managed to find some space to work his magic, he rolled the ball to Chris King who fired the Burgh' to glory!
Thats it for the season, very strange to be deep into June yet we still had something to play for...Did Hearts, Hibs, Rangers or Celtic offer you this excitement this season? No chance. Why not get your hands on a season ticket for next season with us; contact for details.
